Forbidden Cider is celebrating after winning Gold and Silver medals at the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition 2017, one of the planet’s largest cider competitions. The Great Lakes International, held in Michigan, USA, awarded a Gold medal for Hopzilla hop-infused cider and a Silver for Lucifer’s Revenge chilli-infused cider.
Hopzilla won one of five Gold medals awarded in the hopped cider category, which had 64 entries from around the world. Lucifer’s Revenge was entered in Speciality cider & perry, which had 12 Golds, 50 Silvers and 77 Bronzes.
Forbidden Cider’s Alan Spinks says competition was tough, with a total of 1206 entries and 870 medals, with both commercial and non-commercial entrants. Alan and his son Jordan Spinks recognise how challenging winning a medal in this competition is, and are extremely satisfied with the result.
“We pride ourselves and are passionate about producing traditional tasting ciders, made from 100% New Zealand apples. This is one of the big cider competitions, and to have received two medals is just brilliant”.
