Beervana tickets on sale Monday

Beervana 2016 tickets are available from Monday. The event itself is on 12-13 August, and the 2016 website launched this week. The ever-popular volunteer roles are now open for registration online. Beervana 2016 will feature a dedicated Pucker Up sour beer bar for the first time, and the Oregon link will continue with five brewers visiting and making collaboration brews.

US investor buys NZ hop farm

San Diego venture capitalist Michael Stone paid $9.8 million for an Upper Moutere hop farm in March. The 119ha farm currently has 61ha under hops, representing about 15% of New Zealand hop country. The sale included the farm’s shares in NZ Hops, a house, and drying and processing facilities. The property was on the market for six months and attracted international attention, with the sale needing approval from the Overseas Investment Office.

Beer! the Musical!

Wellington beer fans and musicians are at the early stages of a creative collaboration for Beer! the Musical! Tentatively sub-titled A Hoperetta in Four Movements, the production will trace the rise of a new Wellington brewery from an Aro Valley flat to (SPOILER ALERT) international commercial success. Each movement will celebrate the role of either water, yeast, malts or hops in musical form, with songs referencing popular craft beers. The production team say the show will go on before Beervana 2017.
