News

New craft bars in Wellington - Husk has opened down a lane at 62 Ghuznee St, Wellington. The former kick boxing gym has been spectacularly transformed into a cafe/bar by Kerry Gray (Choice Bros Brewing) and Mike Pullin (Karamu Coffee). Now serving food (from breakfast) and beer and stuff, the coffee roaster will be installed soon. The brewery, from Premier Stainless Steel, is expected to be squeezed into the site next month.

Meanwhile, at the other end of town, Dillinger's opened on Midland Park, Lambton Quay, with 18 taps and a comprehensive range of New Zealand craft beer. In its opening week Dillinger's was pouring local breweries including Black Dog and Kereru, plus out-of-town offerings from Epic, McLeod's and Beer Baroness.

6200L brewery for sale - Remember how Beertown told you Harringtons has moved out of its famous Ferry Rd site in Christchurch? That brewery equipment is now for sale through Industrial Brokers Ltd here. The package includes everything from the boiler to the forklift - brewhouse, mill, kettle, mash tun, hot liquor tank/whirlpool, 11 fermenters (79,000L), 44 bright/conditioning tanks (255,000L), bottling line and more. Events next week

Old Beer 2: Another Evening of Aged Beer - 6pm Wednesday 14 December, Hashigo Zake, 25 Taranaki St, Wellington. Last year's old beer tasting went so well, we've decided to hold it again! We'll be seeing how a few of the beers are tasting a year on, and a whole lot of new old beers. Traditionally beers that age well are strong and malty, but recently this wisdom has been challenged by a few members of the beer community who claim other styles age just as well. At this tasting we'll be trying aged examples of both, in a quest to answer the age old question: "is fresh best?"

New releases

Behemoth Sauvin Slayer Double IPA (8%) - This NZ Double IPA is one that has been in the works for years. All Nelson Sauvin hopped in Whirlpool and Dryhop, it has light malt base and smells of tropical dank fruit and punches you in the face with NZ hoppy goodness!

Behemoth White and Nerdy White IPA (6.2%) - Our interpretation of a white IPA using new German hop Hallertau Blanc along with old favorites US Cascade Citra and Galaxy. Using pale malt, wheat malt and oats it has a great mouth feel and really carries the hop combination. Think tropical, grapefruit, floral and herbaceous. Summer IPA drinking.

Behemoth Tropical Mo Fo Tropical Pale Ale (5.2%) - Tropical Mo is our usual style hoppy pale ale with NZ Cascade, Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka and Galaxy then we added pineapple, passionfruit and mango for what will likely one of the most aromatic pale ales you may ever try.
