Smoko Room - Sawmill Brewery in Matakana has a new brewery and bar. Sawmill's Kirsty McKay says: "We have the new brewery running and have opened the tasting room which we have called 'the Smoko Room'. It's right inside the brewery and is open Thursday to Sunday 12pm to 10pm. In the summer we will be open seven days a week. We always have at least 14 beers on tap and good beer food too - smoked kahawai, pork cheeks with BBQ sauce, smoked goat - and we sell beer to takeaway and do flagon fills there as well. We have a massive outdoor area looking across at some native bush and paddocks. Its rural and it's casual and it's at 1004 Leigh Rd, Matakana, North Auckland."
Brew on Quay on market - Brew on Quay bar and restaurant on Auckland's waterfront, one of Auckland's most popular and strategically located bars, has been placed on the market for sale as a business going concern. "The building still showcases it original kauri beams, pillars and floorboards encased by classic red bricks," says Mike Peterson, Bayleys Auckland hospitality specialist, who is seeking offers for the business until September 21.

Invercargill Brewery Dim Wit Baltic Porter (7.4%) - An inviting aroma that's strong on banana, toffee in the foretaste, followed by a dusky dark chocolate bitterness with a lovely dry finish. The beloved third child of the Southern Malt Collective, an annual collaborative brew hosted at Invercargill Brewery where hops step back into a vital supporting role to Malt and, in this case, Yeast. The 2016 Result is a delicious banana toffee chocolate mouthful – think Banoffee Pie. This year the Otago University Food Science Department once again delved into their impressive yeast collection to contribute a little something special to the fermentation, definitely Belgium in origin, delivering a banana aroma which accentuates the rich toffees of the malt profile – which includes the mysterious DD developed specifically by Gladfield for this brew.
Yeastie Boys Pot Kettle Black Remix 2016 - this year a "Pale Kettle Black" - in both keg and bottle. Basically (well, exactly) it is Pot Kettle Black without the chocolate and roasted malt.
Beer Baroness Miss Van Der Bier Belgian IPA (6.1%). Half of this brew has gone in to Pinot barrels for ageing, with a limited edition 6 kegs released to the country at present, 3 kegs for the South Island and 3 kegs for the North.
Sunshine Brewery Pipeline Pilsner (5%) - New Zealand pilsners blend an old world pilsner malt base with new world aromatic hops, giving a lager with more fruit flavours and a tangy greenness. The Pipe is a great surf spot just down the beach from the brewery, it doesn’t barrel often but there are plenty of places around here that do.
Altitude Brewing Powder Day Pilsner (5.2%) - Made with Green Bullet, Nelson Sauvin and Riwaka, it’s fresh on the nose, lively on the tongue and super refreshing. It’ll keep your tips up!
