Events this week

The Winners That Were -  Tuesday 27 September, Pomeroys, Kilmore St, Christchurch. In light of the NZ beer judging for the Brewers Guild of New Zealand 2016 awards we will be remembering the Winners That Were from Tuesday 27th of September onwards. We will be filling up to 12 taps of medal winning beers, the best in the land from last year.

New Release Tuesday - 5pm Tuesday 27 Hashigo Zake, 25 Taranaki St, Wellington. Cask conditioned real ale comes to NRT! Aidan from Baylands went to Chch to collaborate with Jim Holly of Twisted Hop to create this cask conditioned American Brown Ale. It features the increasingly rare US hops Citra and Amarillo. We're tapping a 20L cask at 5pm Tuesday and serving it through one of our handpumps. Get in!

Modern Times Tap Takeover - 30 September- 1 October, Lumsden Freehouse, 444 Khyber Pass Rd, Newmarket, Auckland. Join The Lumsden Freehouse and Beer Without Borders for some fresh off the boat Modern Times Beer on tap in Newmarket. Also appearing will be the classic version of Fortunate Islands, complete with its blastwave of tropical hop aromatics using Citra and Amarillo, and Blazing World, which with its Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic and Simcoe hops, is probably the fruitiest, dankest beer sweet, sweet money can buy.

Tiamana Grainfather Brew Day - 1pm 1 October, Craft Beer Depot, 70 Achilles Ave, Nelson. Come to Craft Beer Depot anytime between 1pm and close to meet this one woman brewing icon. She will be putting down a beer we should all learn to make or at least learn to drink in time for October.. hint hint. brewers can pick her brain about the many great ways that she incorporates Reinheitsgebot in her own - new world - way.

Fork n Twisted Fork & Brewer Tap Takeover - 3pm 5 October, Twisted Hop, 616 Ferry Rd Christchurch. We've teamed up with the team at Fork & Brewer in Wellington to bring you 6 beers from one of New Zealand's favourite brewers, Kelly Ryan

Beer Tasting - 6.30pm 5 October. Liquorland Palmerston North, 95 Grey St. Duvel - A Belgian strong ale; 8 Wired/Modern Times Halfway to Whangarei - A Grissette; Kriek Boon - A lambic; Tuatara Conehead - Fresh hop Pale Ale; Gulden Draak - Another Belgian strong ale

Meet the Brewer with Zak Cassels - 8pm 5 October, the Hop House, 297 Mt Maunganui Rd, Mt Maunganui. Next up in our monthly Meet the Brewer series sees the first of our South Island breweries represented by none other than Zak Cassels from Christchurch's famous Cassels & Sons Brewery. Cassels Brewery has become a Christchurch institution brewing traditional style award winning real ales, craft beers and lagers using the gleaming copper topped 600 litre wood fired kettle which is housed within a 100+ year old Tannery. Tickets are $25 (pre sale) or $30 on the night and include a hosted tasting, nibbles and giveaways. These nights are coming to a close as a wrecking ball will descend upon The Hop House in the New Year.

Flagship IPA Smackdown - 7 October, Brew on Quay, 102 Quay St Auckland. Join Brew On Quay, Beertique NZ and Beer Without Borders as two world-reknowned IPAs - BrewDog's Punk IPA and Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits' Sculpin IPA - battle it out side-by-side in this hop fuelled IPA smackdown.

SOBA Bus Trip - 15 October, Auckland. SOBA bus trip from Auckland CBD up to McLeods in Waipu, coming back via Tahi Bar and Birkenhead Brewing Company. Just finalising costs but it will be open to non-members (they'll just have to pay more). There's already been a bit of interest so remaining spots will be limited. New releases

Fork Brewing Slip Pils German Style Pilsener (5.2%) - Flavour: Initial malt sweetness balanced by a light noble hop bitterness. Smooth with good dryness and floral. Aroma: Dominated by lemon-spice with hints of thyme honey and promises of subtle perfumed sweetness. Hops: German Perle and German Saphir. Malt: German Pilsener Malt. IBU: 28 Available from tomorrow at Fork & Brewer.

Emerson's Vertumnus US Hopped Pilsner (5.6%) - Seasonal Release Vertumnus is Emerson’s tribute to the land that gave us the hot dog, the Kardashians and spray-on cheese. Bursting with sassy, flavoursome US hops, Vertumnus is dry-hopped to deliver a bitter, crisp and slightly stronger-than-usual Pilsner. A New Zealand-made, American-style beer.

Eagle Lil Red WannaBe Gose (3.5%) - Aroma: light bready soured-dough with lactic yeasty character. Appearance: A deep pink, full-haze, effervescent. Flavour: Tart raspberry with noticeable sourness, bready and subtle saltiness. Brewed for the Hunt for Red October

Three Boys Beets Rye Dre Amber Rye (5.1%) - Brewed with Motueka, Waimea & Waiiti hops with beetroot. Beautiful red/pink colour, fruity and fresh with light beetroot aroma. Fresh and sweet in flavour with beetroot and tropical hop flavours. Brewed for the Hunt for Red October

Behemoth U-Boat German Red IPA (6.3%) - using all new German hop varieties. Brewed for the Hunt for Red October

Zeffer Apple Crumble Cider (5.4%) - Infused with cinnamon, vanilla and blackberry leaves to give a mouthwatering drop that is like enjoying a freshly baked piece of apples rumble with vanilla ice cream.

Sunshine Brewery Fossil Fuel Belgian Golden Strong Ale (7.1%) - Dry hopped with lashings of Amarillo. Fermented with Belgian and Saison Yeast strains. Brewed amongst the aftershoccks and available from Thursday at the brewery
