Brewers Guild Announces Key Entry and Judging Dates for 2017 Awards

  • Monday 21 August 2017 - Entries Open
  • Friday 8 September 2017 - Entries Close
  • Wednesday 13 September 2017 - Physical Entries must be received in Christchurch
  • Friday 29 September to Sunday 1 October 2017 - NZ Beer Awards Judging, Christchurch.

As soon as entry information and instructions are confirmed they will be available on the Brewers Guild of NZ website and social media. Please feel free to pass these dates onto your international brewery contacts.


Events this week

New Release Tuesday - 5pm today, Hashigo Zake, 25 Taranaki St, Wellington.  Townshend Brewery has a new beer that we understand may have made it onto a tap or hand pump in the general vicinity of Wellington. But we think this new American Amber deserves a little bit of a fuss made about it. In the brewery’s own words “A bit of a twist on one of our regulars (Sutton Hoo,) this brew is slightly lighter in colour and has swag of US Chinook, Centennial and Cascade hops”.

Heyday Beer Co Wellington Beer Launch at Golding's Free Dive - 5pm tomorrow 17 May, Golding's Free Dive, 14 Leeds St, Wellington. Riding the second wave of craft breweries is Heyday Beer Co. Based in Wellington City, Heyday Beer Co are having their first beer launch at Goldings Free Dive with two exciting new beers on tap, Horizon APA and Moongold Apricot Ale. Heyday Beer Co's brewer, Sam Whitney, and the rest of the team will be there so come say hey and make it a day to remember.

Volstead's Ski Apres - 4pm Friday, Volstead, 55 Riccarton Rd, Christchurch. Ski resort beers come north, from Wanaka's B.Effect and Queenstown's Altitude Brewing. Our friends at Cardrona have flicked us some passes for best dressed too. Get you best outfit on and hop on down.

Punky Brewster's 2nd Birthday feat McLeod's/Craftwork - 5pm Friday 19 May, Punky Brewster, 22b Tyne St, Christchurch. It's been two whole years of Punky and we're celebrating with our friends McLeod's and Craftwork! Come along and try a selection of awesome McLeod's beers, along with a one-off birthday beer, kindly brewed for us by the wonderful people at Craftwork. The brewers will be milling around for you to have a yarn to, and the stellar people at Pure HiFi will be setting up a mean soundsystem for us to spin some vinyl to (so bring along a few records!). Help up celebrate two awesome years of awesome beers, cheers!

Funk Estate turns 5! - 1pm Saturday 20 May, Funk Estate Brewery, 3/402 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland. We're 5 years old! And we would love for you all to come and celebrate with us at our brewery in Grey Lynn! We'll have a couple of brand spanking new beers for the event along with some of the regular mainstays. There'll be some tasty food courtesy of Guerrilla Grill and some chill, funky music. Hope to see you there!

Urbanaut Opening Weekend - 20 & 21 May, Urbanaut Brewing Co, 2B Western Springs Rd, Kingsland, Auckland. After much anticipation, crafting and tasting, we’re proud to announce our first five beers are ready! To celebrate this big day, we’re hosting a launch party at our brand-spanking new craft brewery in Kingsland, Auckland. Glengarry Craft Club: Yeastie Boys Are Back in Town - 7pm Wednesday 24 May, 118 Wellesley Street form 7pm. At last the irreverent Yeastie Boys will be gracing our own Victoria Park store! Brewer Stu McKinlay has been a busy man over in the U.K. but is taking some time out to give us a run down of their most classic and inventive brews. We'll fight for our right to drink great craft beer!

New Release Tasting May - 7pm Wednesday 24 May, Brothers Beer, 90 Wellesley St West, Auckland. We're adding more brand new releases and exciting acquisitions to our range at Brothers all the time. We know how hard it is to try everything so come along to our inagural Monthly new release tasting! Winter Is Coming Dark Beer Celebration - Saturday 27 May, Craft Hamilton, 15 Hood St, Hamilton. To celebrate the changing of the seasons, Craft is having a tap blackout. 15 taps of dark beer will be pouring. The lineup will include a selection of local and international beers, including a number of Craft-only exclusives. Breweries from Sweden, Denmark, England and New Zealand will be represented.

Emerson's Tap Takeover & 2017 JP Belgian Quad Release - 1 June, Fork & Brewer, Bond St, Wellington. We have the Emerson's Brewery Tap Takeover to end all Emerson's Tap Takeovers! All those sneaky little limited Emerson's releases that rarely breach the Dunedin city limits will finally be on tap in Wellington! Also released will be the 10th annual limited beer release in honor of JP (Jean Pierre) Dufour (a.k.a. the JP Brew). We'll be pouring: Hazed & Confused Unfiltered IPA 6.2%; Dubious Dubbel 6.7%; Bird Dog IPA 7%; JP 2017 Belgian Quad (ABV TBC)

Raise for Taranaki Retreat - 7pm 1 June, The Hour Glass, 49 Liardet St, New Plymouth. Raise Awareness - Raise Money - Raise a glass for Taranaki Retreat. Through the Porthole Beer Tasting - 7pm 1 June, The Portsider, 31 George St, Port Chalmers, Dunedin. Join The Portsider and your host, NZ Champion Home Brewer Jamie McQuillan for the first of what will hopefully be an ongoing Beer Tasting series. 2017 Okere Falls Strong Beer Festival - 5pm 3 June & 5pm 4 June, Okere Falls Store, 757a State Highway 3, Okere Falls, Rotorua. The Okere Falls Strong Beer Festival is back in true German style over Queen’s Birthday Weekend! Join us for two amazing nights of beer-tasting, bonfires, and live music. These beers were first produced during the ‘Strong Beer Season’ (Starkbierzeit), a tradition begun by 17th century Paulaner monks brewing what they called ‘Holy Father Beer’ (Sankt Vater Bier). Dark Beer and Oysters v2.0 – noon Thursday 15th June, Lumsden Freehouse, Newmarket, Auckland. Laughed for Craft, Stand Up Comedy and Craft Beer Night – 7pm 15 June, Glengarry Victoria Park, 118 Wellesley Street, Auckland. Shaking things up for Beer Week, Glengarry Wines and Garage Project are trying something a little different. We've matched beer with food, even with wine and whiskey- but jokes? Garage Project are always testing new material, plus you'll get the best gear from each of our established local comedians. In the wake of their Comedy Fest shows and before Garage Project hits Auckland GABS, it's a marriage between festivals. Smiths NZIPA Competition - 22-24 June, Smiths Craft Beer House, Queenstown. It's back! The second annual Smiths New Zealand India Pale Ale Competition. 20 + of the countries best and brightest stars come back to Queenstown to showcase their one of kind all New Zealand Hopped IPA. The event starts on Thursday the 22nd, we'll open the doors at noon with all 22 beers on tap ready go. The party only starts there. Winner announced Sunday.

A Mid-Winter's Ale Festival - Saturday 1 July, Rolleston Community Centre, Christchurch. Showcasing some exciting craft beers and delicious ciders from breweries around Canterbury and the North Island as well as a handpicked selections of beers from overseas. We also have an exciting line up of live entertainment throughout the afternoon plus some awesome food options to match with the amazing line up of beers and ciders. Packhall Technician and Sustainability Manager, Garage Project, Wellington

The Packaging Technician and Sustainability Manager is a key role in a busy and dynamic team. This role is responsible for key aspects of production (canning and bottling), ensuring quality standards. At the front line of our production process, you’ll be best placed to manage the sustainability program across the whole business, but predominantly in brew and pack operations. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that our packaging quality and sustainability KPI’s are consistently met. The Production Planning and Procurement Manager needs to juggle and consider multiple stakeholders, such as brew and pack teams, our customers, suppliers, to name a few.

Production Brewery Finance & Administration Co-ordinator, Cassels and Sons Brewery, Christchurch (Part-time role)

The role of  Finance & Administration Coordinator is a newly created position in response to the introduction of a bottling plant to our Christchurch Brewery. Reporting to the Finance Manager the role primarily exists to control the beer ordering process from the establishment of supply terms, processing orders, producing the correct paperwork, invoicing and credit control.

Hallertau Brewery has been brewing up a storm in tropical North West Auckland since 2005. We really like to brew beer and love the beer we brew. We installed a new 20 HL Brewhouse and 12 head filler 3 years ago, and we also recently built a brand spanking new Beirgarten.
